Job Description

Post of Director – Centre for 3RS (C3RS) in the Laboratory Animal Science in Sri Lanka – (Internal Applicants Only)

By-Laws made by the Council of the University of Colombo under section 135 of the Universities Act No.16 of 1978, as amendments. These By-Laws may be cited as the Centre for 3Rs in Laboratory Animal Science By-Laws No. 05/2018 of the University of Colombo.

This is a part-time position, for a period of 3 years. (No. of Vacancies – 01)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:

• Applications are invited for the above position from the permanent members of the academic staff of the University of Colombo having qualifications in a related discipline e.g. veterinary medicine, zoology, biomedical sciences, medicine with a postgraduate research degree.
• In addition to the qualifications mentioned, the applicant should have a minimum of 5 years of experience with active contribution to the field of laboratory animal science.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

The Director position at Centre for 3Rs in the Laboratory Animal Science in Sri Lanka, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka is a position based on 1-year contract period with a view of extending it for a maximum another two years. The following include the specific tasks/ responsibilities of the selected individual:

1. The academic, administrative and financial management of the Centre in accordance with the policies and guidelines, as well as the rules and regulations as laid down by the university administration, from time to time;
2. The maintenance of records pertaining to finances of the Centre;
3. The maintenance of inventories and documents of all equipment received and disposed of;
4. The convening of meetings of the Board;
5. Ensuring the compilation of the annual reports of the Centre;
6. Submitting of financial reports and progress reports as required, to
   1. The Board
   2. The Council through the Dean and the Vice-Chancellor
   3. The donors through the Dean and the Vice-Chancellor
7. Representing the Centre in the Senate of the University of Colombo if the latter body requires the presence of the Director for any discussion of any matter referred to by the Faculty Board under Article 5 of the By-Laws;
8. Any other functions necessary for the effective functioning of the Centre as recommended or delegated by the Board.
