UNIVERSITY OF PERADENIYA

      01) Dean’s Office

Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

  • Especially looking for candidates with B.Sc. Honours in Information Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Candidates who are applying for Lecturer (unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Grade II/I should have postgraduate qualification as stipulated in the relevant circulars.
  • Preference will be given to the candidates who have postgraduate qualifications in the following fields,
  • Software Engineering, Database Management Systems, Computer Networking, Information Systems, Web
  • Technology and Cloud Computing, Mobile Systems, Communication Networks
  • Having industry experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred.
  • Enterprise Software Development, Mobile Application Development, Network Administration, Database Administration

02) Department of English

Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

  • Applications are entertained from candidates holding a B.A. Honours degree in English. Postgraduate qualifications in English Literary Studies and/ or English Language Studies as stipulated in the relevant circulars are required for those applying for the posts of Lecturer (unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Gr. II/I.

 

03) Department of Geography

 Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

 

  • The Department is specially looking for candidates who hold an honours degree in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing or Engineering, Surveying Sciences from a recognized university. Preference will be given to those who have relevant postgraduate qualifications, especially in the areas of Photogrammetry, Surveying, Web-GIS and Programming and Remote Sensing as stipulated in the relevant circulars for Senior Lecturer Grade II/I.

 

Teaching and research experience is an added qualification

 

04) Department of History

Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

  • Applications are entertained from candidates holding a B.A. Honours degree in History. Postgraduate qualifications as stipulated in the relevant circulars in the field of History are required for Lecturer ( unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Gr. II/I. Ability to teach History in both the Sinhala and English mediums is an essential qualification.

 

05) Department of Philosophy

( i) Professor of Philosophy

The applicants must fulfil qualifications as stipulated in the UGC circular Nos. 916, 04/2014 and establishments circular letter Nos.

04/2010, 12/2019 & 08/2021.

 

( ii) Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

  • The Department is looking for candidates who hold a B.A. Honours degree in Philosophy. Postgraduate qualifications as stipulated in the relevant circulars in the field of Philosophy are required for Lecturer (unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Gr. II/I. Ability to teach Philosophy in both the Tamil and English mediums is an essential qualification.
  • An active research programme and publications in high-impact indexed journals will be considered an additional qualification.

 

06) Department of Archaeology

 Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

 

  • Applications are entertained from candidates holding a Bachelor of Honours degree in Archaeology. Postgraduate qualifications in Zoo Archaeology/Bio-archaeology; Epigraphy and Numismatic as stipulated in the relevant circulars are required for Lecturer (unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Gr. II/I.
  • Ability to teach Archaeology in both the Sinhala and English mediums is an essential qualification.
  •  Expertise in Archaeochemistry and Geo-archaeology, teaching experience at university level, and research experience at national and international level will be added qualifications.

 

07) Department of Tamil

Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I 

Applications are entertained from candidates holding a B.A. Honours degree in Hindu Culture or Tamil. Postgraduate qualifications as stipulated in relevant circulars are required for Lecturer (unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Gr. II/I.  Ability to teach Hindu Culture with a relevant degree in Hindu Culture will be an added qualification.

 

08) Department of Economics and Statistics

Lecturer (Probationary), Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

Applications are entertained from the graduates with a Bachelor of Arts Honours/Special degree in Economics for Lecturer ( Probationary ).

Postgraduate qualifications as stipulated in the relevant circulars are required qualifications for Lecturer (unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Grade II/I. The ability to teach in the Tamil and the English mediums at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is an essential qualification. Preferred areas of expertise;

Remuneration and other benefits

( i). Remuneration

 

Lecturer (Prob.) {(U-AC 3(IV))} Rs.54,600 – 10x1335 – 67,950 p.m.

Lecturer (Unconfirmed){(U-AC 3(III))}Rs.69,580 –  5x1630 – 77,730 p.m.

Snr. Lecturer Gr.II Rs.79,360 – 11x1630 – 97,290 p.m.

Snr. Lecturer Gr.I Rs.91,310 – 7x2170 – 106,500 p.m.

Associate Professor {(U-AC 4} Rs.102,160 – 13x2170 – 130,370 p.m.

Professor {(U-AC 5(II)} Rs.117,350 – 13x2700 – 152,450 p.m.

 

In addition to the above salaries, the following allowances will be paid considering the Basic Salary

 

(I) Cost of Living Allowance, (Currently Rs.7800.00 p.m.)

(II) Academic Allowance,

   Lecturer (Probationary)/-  115% of the Basic Salary p.m.

   Lecturer (Unconfirmed)- 131%            do

   Snr. Lecturer Gr.II- 151%            do

   Snr. Lecturer Gr.I- 151%            do

   Associate Professor- 157%            do

   Professor- 162%            do

(III)    Research Allowance-  35% of the Basic Salary p.m.

( IV)   Additional Monthly Allowance - 20% of the Basic Salary p.m.

  

(ii). Other Benefits

*        Entitlement to Sabbatical Leave, Study Leave, Conference Leave, and Special Leave as and   when applicable.

*        Loan facilities.

*        University quarters will be provided subject to availability.

*        Air tickets for teacher and spouse when travelling on sabbatical leave

Provident Fund & Pension Fund

Permanent employees of the University are required to contribute 10% of their monthly salary to the Universities Provident Fund and the University contributes a sum equivalent to 18% of their monthly salary of which 8% will be credited to the Universities Pension Fund, 7% to the Universities Provident Fund (UPF) and 3% to the Employees' Trust Fund (ETF).

How to apply

(I)  Use downloaded applications & format of referee reports only

(II) The post applied for should be clearly mentioned in the application (one post only)

(III)The post applied for should be marked on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.

(IV) The candidates who apply for more than one post should submit separate applications under separate cover for each post.

(V) It is compulsory to submit two non-related referee reports (downloaded from the University web site)  along with the application under sealed envelope or

Referees may be requested to send the referee reports directly addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of this University indicating “Name of the applicant, post applied & the Department” at the top left-hand corner of the envelope.

(VI) Permanent staff candidates in Public Service, Corporations, Statutory Boards and Universities should forward their applications through respective Heads of Institutions (Employees of the Ministry of Health should submit their applications through the Director General/ Deputy Director General of Ministry of Health) , within two weeks of the closing date of application. They should send an advance copy of the application on or before 31.08.2022 to reach the Senior Assistant

Special Note

Post of Professor/ Associate Professor

Applicants should submit the following documents to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office on or before 14.09.2022.  Documents which are not received on or before the closing date, will not be considered. (Please note that application for the post of Professor should strictly follow the UGC circular Nos. 916, 04 /2014 and Establishments circular letter No. 04/2010, 12/2019 & 08/2021)

Incomplete applications, applications and referees reports not in the relevant format (not downloaded from the Web Site), applications without supporting documents ( copies of NIC, birth certificate, degree certificates, academic transcripts, Service certificates etc.), and applications received after the closing date will be rejected.
