VACANCY

Post of Specialized Research Assistant - (01 post) 

Applications are called for a specialized Research Assistant for the project of “Investigating Geochemical Factors Contribute to the Prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease of Uncertain Etiology (CKDu) in the Uva Province, Sri Lanka” under the Development of Reseearch (DOR) Grant of the Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) project, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

REQIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

He/she should be qualified in the field of Hydrogeochemistry.

1. The employee should have to hold a MSc/M.Phil degree under an approved educational institute/university by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in one of the relevant subjects mentioned below.

Environmental Geochemistry/ Hydrogeochemistry/ Environmental Chemistry/ Earth Sciences or a related subject above

The candidate should have a good publication record (SCI, SCIE or ESCI journal publications).

And

2. The candidate should hold a BSc. degree in related with Environmental Science or Environmental Chemistry/Geochemistry/ Earth Sciences or above-mentioned fields in (1).

•The skills required are the laboratory experimental experience in chemical, physical, geological and functional, experimental data analysis. Experience in laboratory environment is mandatory to the above post. Special interests are on water and earth chemistry and geochemistry. He/She should have to handle the experiments and complete the tasks of the project within the given time.

•Candidate needs to have effective communicational skills, and an ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and other team members.

TASKS TO COMPLETE

This is a full-time position. The contract appointment shall be for a period of 2022. 05.07 – 2022. 11.06.

1.Analysis of rock samples and identification of fluoride baring rock minerals 

2. Ability of work ArcGIS software to build geological and vulnerable maps for soil, rock and water indicators to produce Atlas 

3.Writing a text book and one article with using outcomes of the current studies of the project 

4. Obtaining and applying for one patents 

He/She is entitled to work minimum 8 hours per day and should be able to handle extra hours according to the length of the experiments. He/She is been supported by a lab attendant and he/she should be responsible to report exclusively the progress and other facts with the coordinator and deputy coordinator. The agreement is for 5 months period. The Employee shall comply with all the university policies in Sabaragamuwa university of Sri Lanka, rules and procedures at all times.

REMUNERATION:

As compensation for the services provided, the employee shall be paid a wage of Rs. 80,000 [per month] and all payments shall be subject to mandatory employment deductions (EPF and ETF).
