Job Description
POSTGRADUATE INSTITUTE OF ENGLISH
THE OPEN UNIVERSITY OF SRI LANKA
VACANCY - POST OF SENIOR LECTURER IN ENGLISH (ON CONTRACT)
Applications will be received up to 03rd August 2022 from suitably qualified persons for the above post. Applications should be made on the prescribed Google form. The person recruited will be responsible for coordinating the Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA TESL) programme of the PGIE as well as other related duties. Candidates with teaching, research, and work experience in the following areas: linguistics; applied linguistics; sociolinguistics; English Language Teaching; English as a Second Language, TESL/ TESOL are eligible to apply for the post.
For this position, a PhD-level qualification along with experience in postgraduate teaching and mentoring will be an advantage. Candidates with exposure to diverse pedagogical contexts, both local and overseas, are asked to highlight this aspect of their experience.
Qualifications required for the post of Senior Lecturer (on contract) *:
(1) A Degree with specialization in the relevant subject with First or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours
OR
(2) A Degree with specialization in the relevant subject with Second Class (Lower Division) Honours
OR
(3) A degree with specialization in the relevant subject without Honours or any other degree with at least Second Class Honours,
and
(i) A Doctoral Degree in the relevant field
OR
(ii) A Master’s Degree in the relevant field obtained after a full-time course of study of at least 24 months duration (or an equivalent part-time course of study) with a research component by way of thesis/dissertation
OR
(iii) A full time Master’s Degree in the relevant field of a minimum of 18 months duration with at least 60 credits* of which not less than 15 credits of research by way of thesis/dissertation
AND
(2)( i) A Doctoral Degree in the relevant field
OR
(ii) A Master’s Degree in the relevant field obtained after a full-time course of study of at least 24 months’ duration (or an equivalent part-time course of study) with a research component by way of thesis/dissertation
(iii) A full time Master’s Degree in the relevant field of a minimum of 18 months’ duration with at least 60 credits* of which not less than 15 credits of research by way of thesis/dissertation (*One credit considered per
course unit/module should be in accordance with the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLOF)]
AND
3. At least six (06) years of experience in one or more of the Following: -
(i) Teaching at University level,
(ii) Professional experience,
(iii) Research in a recognized Institution,
(iv) Postgraduate Studies to acquire the qualifications Stipulated at (2) above.
*Provisions in UGC circular No: 721 and related circulars are applicable in this regard.
CONTRACT DURATION: One (01) year
SALARY SCALE: Senior Lecturer Rs. 136,000 p.m. (fixed)
(In addition the Appointee will be paid the allowance stipulated in the UGC circular 02/2022 and will become a contributor to the EPF contributing 8% of the above salary. The PGIE will contribute 12% of the above salary to the EPF and 3% to the ETF.)
